KASHMIR GREAT LAKES TREK - ( JAMMU & KASHMIR )

Lying in the lap of Himalayas the paradise land of Kashmir Valley. The numerous trekking opportunities offered by this valley, the meet and greet with the nature, peace is what makes it the ‘heaven on earth’.
Somewhere in between this beautiful valley lies the Kashmir Great Lakes. Although there are many treks offered by the crown of India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir but Kashmir Great Lakes still stand at number one when talked about the right proportion of adventurous , fun and divine experience. This trek offers an unforgettable experience that any trekker, be it be a beginner or a highly trained will cherish for his lifetime. All the mesmerizing views and experiences this trek has to offer just hits you in the right spot of your heart.
The region is overall surrounded with dense flora, bouquets of diverse flowers and mountains covered with blankets of snow. The path which may seem tiring at first offers such a great incentive of serene landscapes and heart filling adventure that one will be filled with the zeal of going through it.
Away from the concrete jungle and civilization , The Himalayan range that expands itself in India furnishes the Kashmir Great Lakes trekkers with a staggering, once in a blue moon chance to observe the unmatched appeal of the valley. 
The eight-day long trek begins in Sonmarg and finishes in Narnag. A three-hour drive will take you to your base camp in Sonmarg from Srinagar, from where we will embark upon the peaceful sojourn through the dense woods. The terrain has a dynamic offering, from muddy platforms to rocky roads, from lush green trails to carpet of flowers and many more surprising transformations. Apart from solid ground  you will experience numerous stream crossing  segments which will tickle you toes with the ice cold water.
This trek covers 7 major lakes – Vishansar, Kishansar, Gadsar, Satsar, Yamsar, Gangabal, and Nundkol. The trek has a low to mild elevation, only tougher part is the ascent on the fifth day on the way to Gadsar Lake via Gadsar Pass. Gadsar Pass stands tall at 13,700 ft. with a magnificent view which will surely make its permanent spot in your closet of memories. As the title of the trek suggests, most of the camps will be placed on the banks of the lakes. The night sky and heavenly water bodies will surely fulfil and revive you from the tiring  day-trek. Your trek will end after you come down to Narnag from your campground close to the Gangabal Twin Lakes, from where a drive will return you to Srinagar.

THE PLAN - 

DAY 1 - REACH SONAMARG BASE CAMP. BRIEFING FOR THE TREK. EXPLORE SONAMARG , THE BEAUTIFUL VILLAGE IN KARAKORAM OF KASHMIR. OVERNIGHT IN SONAMARG. 7800 FEET.

DAY 2 - SONAMARG TO NICHNAI CAMP ( 9 KMS , 8 HOURS ) MODERATE UPCLIMB THROUGH FOREST AND BOULDER ZONE. VIEWS OF THAJIWAS GLACIER ENROUTE. OVERNIGHT STAY IN NICHNAI 11000 FEET. 

DAY 3 - NICHNAI TO VISHANSAR CAMPSITE ( 7 KMS , 6 HOURS ) EASY TREK DAY THROUGH MEADOWS AND LAKES OF VISHANSAR. OVERNIGHT IN VISHANSAR CAMPSITE. 12000 FEET.

DAY 4 - VISHANSAR TO GADSAR CAMPSITE, VIA THE GADSAR PASS ( 13800 FEET ) . TIRING LONG DAY OF TREK TO BE EXPECTED. ( 14 kms , 10 hours ). OVERNIGHT AT GADSAR CAMPSITE, 12100 FEET.

DAY 5 - GADSAR TO SATSAR CAMPSITE ( 8 KMS 5 HOURS ) EASY DAY OF TREKKING TRAVERSING THE MEADOWS AND MOUNTAINS. HIGH CHANCES OF SEEING NANGA PARVAT ENROUTE ON A CLEAR DAY. THE SEVENTH HIGHEST AND KILLER MOUNTAIN FROM HIMALAYAS. OVERNIGHT IN SATSAR BY THE LAKE AT 12100 FEET. 

DAY 6 - SATSAR TO GANGABAL CAMPSITE VIA ZACH PASS. ( 13500 FEET) MODERATE DAY OF TREKKING. ( 9 KMS , 6 HOURS)  UPCLIMB TILL ZACH PASS. THEN ALL DESCEND VIEWS OF TWIN LAKES OF GANGABAL AND NUNDKUL AND MT.HARMUKH , PRETTIEST SIGHT IN THE TREK. OVERNIGHT IN GANGABAL CAMP AT 11600 FEET. 

DAY 7 - REST DAY IN GANGABAL TO EXPLORE THE HUGE MEADOWS OF MT. HARMUKH AND NANDKUL LAKE. THIS BUFFER DAY IS ALSO FOR THE POLITICAL INSTABILITILY AND BAD WEATHER DUE TO MONSOON AND TO BE USED IN CIRCUMSTANCES. DEPENDS TOTALLY ON SITUATIONS IN KASHMIR. OVERNIGHT IN GANGABAL. 

DAY 8 - TREK DOWN FROM GANGABAL TO NARANAG ( 15 KMS , 7 HOURS ). TREK ENDS. GO BACK WITH SMILES AND LIFETIME MEMORIES. 
DRIVE FROM NARANAG TO SRINAGAR BY EVENING 6 P.M. 

VISHANSAR MEADOWS AND CAMPSITE, ALMOST GIVES YOU LORD OF THE RINGS FEEL.
