" How did you stay for so long in Thailand?" almost a lot of people ask. The prime query is , how did I manage with my finances for such long.
Well it is true , if you are planning to stay abroad in a minimal budget of a backpacker then you must find and use of some travel hacks. And this one is one of the most important travel hacks to learn to survive on road for long.
Taking up volunteering work while on the road in exchange of accommodation and food, can help you save a lot and sustain more time on road.
So in the island of Koh Phangan , I took up this volunteering opportunity in a party hostel called Nomad House. The boss or owner was Shine, a man from Croatia, who started this hostel 6 years back and made it a super hit. He earned my respect with all the skills he knows. He is till date the most hard working owner , I have ever seen. He literally knows everything, how to put the beds together, how to make the sheets, how to sweep and clean, how to fix washrooms and even door knobs and then even how to use all the internet to sell his hostel! He knew even how to make great Pizzas!
He was a mentor for me in my 20 days of service there, I learned so many skills , practical and handy for life and this industry, and can never thank him enough!
Next came my beautiful co-workers from France, US and Russia. All girls but they knew every work a man could do. We had amazing memories and great days everyday. Somedays even if work was hard , you never felt it, having them close and after work, all the fun and parties that we jumped in. From trying out mushroom shakes to getting drunk ( most nights) and dancing, it was all a treat.
The best part was during the famous full moon party, prices go soaring high in the island. Travelers have to pay a lot, but if you can find a work like me, you actually saved a lot of money.

Even if you are working you are not tied to the work for whole day. Generally , the work is around 5-6 hours a day and rest is free time for you to explore and enjoy. Not a bad deal when you are paying nothing and yet enjoying every thing the place has to offer.
When you work in a hostel, anyways, it is a great place of fun, meeting people from all around the world. You can gain so much knowledge plus make friends who can help you out in future to travel around the globe. Parties are more fun going out with this crazy group of people and the memories I made are priceless.
Add to all this , that my workplace was a party hostel with a pool, so you can imagine how crazy the nights went. There were no Good or Bad days, it was all Party days!
After having this experience , I urge most backpacker like me to work or volunteer in hostel , mostly when you are young , as the things you learn and experience is none to other plus you get free drinks , if you can handle the bar!
What can sound better?
Surely I will , now on every long backpacking trip try to savor this experience time and again!

    Note from the Author,

" Travel made me rich and free. Magic and miracles are true , once you wander on the roads to places different and divine. I have collected so many thoughts and stories while being a Tour & Trek guide for last seven years. Sharing with you all, those memories and stories , and wishing you all , that someday you guys travel far and wide too. I am not a great writer , so ignore my grammar and spellings, read it with feelings, and you might just be affected with the wanderlust to hit the road"
